overview of subject areas
Math: The students learned about solid figures. They learned the definition of a solid figure as having a length, width, and height. They learned to identify the faces, edges and vertices of a sphere, cube, cone, cylinder, pyramid, and rectangular prism. As well as identify which figures roll or stack or both. They used geo-blocks to help with this concept. They also learned how to identify how many cubes are stacked by using multiplication. The unifix cubes help the students act these questions out. As always, the students continue to learn to memorize their multiplication and division facts.
Language Arts: Some students began their novel study of E.B. White by reading Charlotte's Web or The Trumpet Swan. They will continue to read these stories this week. They are learning that they may need to find the supporting details in the story to answer the comprehension question. Other students read the stories Wings and Beauty and the Beast and discussed how the characters treated each other. All students worked on the prefixes; re, mid, mis, ex, im, in, de and had spelling words to match. With these spelling words the students had to put them in ABC order and write sentences for them. The students also began their opinion/persuasive writing piece. The information went home for them to work on the note taking so they can write the paragraph in class.
Religion: The students read about how they can follow Jesus and be a Good Shepherd like Jesus. They read about sin, virtue, and reconciliation for homework and in class read about Jesus as a Good Shepherd and how it connects with Lent. Each day the students are asked to either sacrifice something for the day or do a kind deed or pray silently.
Science: The students finished their paragraph on quicksand and began to read and take notes about the Earth's Land and Water Features with Mrs. Roy.
Social Studies: It was not taught this week.
